Health Center Support

The lack of affordable, available health care in the Ganthier area motivated the development and building of the Village of Hope Health Center in March 2012. The Health Center provides access to primary health care not only to the students, staff and teachers at VOH but to their families and community members as well. Primary Health care services include laboratory testing and pharmaceutical services, all provided by Haitian medical professionals. The current staff has the potential to serve more than 50 patients a day. Some of the Programs offered at the health center are:

Dental Care

In 2015 basic dental services, extractions, fillings and cleanings began to be provided two days a week at the Health Center. The affordable fees charged the patients currently do not cover the cost of this program.

Eye Care

VOH received a grant to start a pilot program for eye care at the Health Center in 2017. Our staff will assess the needs of the clients to determine the best way we can offer an eye care program. Details on the number of days and types of eye services will be developed by the Health Center staff during the pilot.

Nutrition Program

Targets malnourished children 0-59 months as well as malnourished pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. This program not only makes a difference with our patients that we serve, but the community is positively affected by healthier children.

Matron Program

The Health Center provides training for mature women who help the younger women in the community to give birth. Due to the lack of transportation at night and proximity to a skilled birth attendant, many women end up having their babies at home alone or with a Matron. In addition to training, the Matron’s are provided with a basic cord kit to use during the birthing process.
